How Task Recurrence works

Updated over 2 months ago

Task Recurrence Options

Task recurrence behavior depends on whether the project itself is recurring or one-time. Xenett automatically adjusts the available recurrence options based on the project type.

Recurrence in Recurring Projects (Close Projects)

When a project (for example, Monthly Close or Quarterly Close) is set as recurring, tasks offer the following recurrence options:

1. Recur with Project

  • The task automatically appears every time the project recurs.

  • Best for standard close tasks performed every period.

2. Accounting Period

  • Used for tasks that occur only in specific months.

  • Common examples:

  • Depreciation entries β†’ December only

  • Payroll reconciliation β†’ March, June, September, December

  • This option is specific to close projects.

3. One-Time

  • The task appears only in the current close.

  • It will not appear in future closes.

Recurrence in One-Time or General Projects

For non-recurring projects (such as daily task tracking or one-off work), different recurrence options are available:

One-Time (Default)

  • Task is created once and does not repeat.

Weekly Recurrence

  • Example: Recording bank feed transactions every week.

  • Options include:

  • Every X weeks

  • Specific weekday (for example, every Wednesday)

Monthly Recurrence

  • Example: Filing sales tax returns.

  • Configure:

  • Every X months

  • Specific day of the month (for example, the 15th)

Summary

Task recurrence in Xenett is driven by the project type. Recurring close projects provide period-based options like accounting periods, while one-time projects support weekly and monthly scheduling. Choosing the correct recurrence ensures tasks appear exactly when needed without manual re-creation.
